What We Believe

OUR CORE DOCTRINES:

We realize that on various issues related to the Bible people hold different views. Sometimes referred to as “gray areas”, these issues are not usually seen as “tenets of the Christian faith”, or, core doctrines. On the core doctrines, however, we take a very clear stand and these positions haven’t changed since the founding of our Statement of Faith in 1789. As a member of "The Church of the United Brethren In Christ" denomination we believe:

In God: We believe in the only true God – The Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost. These three are one—the Father in the Son, the Son in the Father, and the Holy Ghost equal in essence or being with both.

In Jesus Christ, The Son: We believe that Jesus Christ is both God and man. He became a man by the power of the Holy Ghost in the Virgin Mary and was born of her. He is the Savior and mediator of the whole human race, if they accept with full faith in Christ the grace offered in him.

In The Holy Spirit: We believe that the Holy Spirit is equal in being with the Father and the Son. He comforts the faithful and guides them into all truth.

In The Church: We believe in the Christian church, the communion of saints, the resurrection of the body, and eternal life. We believe in the local church, i. e. Franklin Church, and we believe in the universal church. The local church is made up of both members and attendees, while the true, universal church consists of all those who have accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and follow him.

In The Holy Bible and Salvation: We believe that the Bible, Old and New Testaments, is the Word of God. It contains the only true way of salvation. Every true Christian is bound to acknowledge and receive it with the influence of the Spirit of God, as the only rule and guide. We believe that without faith in Jesus Christ, true repentance, forgiveness of sins, and following after Christ, no one can be a true Christian.

The Christian Ordinances (Baptism and Communion): We believe that all Christian churches are to use and practice the ordinances—baptism, and the remembrance of the sufferings and death of Christ. We also believe God’s children are to practice these ordinances, but that the manner should always be left to the judgment and understanding of the individual.

OUR CORE VALUES:

God’s Word: We adhere to the whole Word of God as internal and infallible and should be used as the basis of all teaching and preaching.

Evangelism: Seeking the lost should be a priority of the church and all believers both here and abroad.

Spiritual Growth: Is both the responsibility of the individual and the church. The Great Commission requires that we make disciples.

The Family: The church must seek to protect and preserve the family, with special emphasis to the youth and children, through Godly instruction.

The Church: The church is the Body of Christ, both local and universal. Members of the local church are expected to preserve its unity, fellowship together, and serve to the best of their abilities.

Special Concern: We believe God cares about our physical and emotional needs as well as our spiritual needs. Therefore, we must do all we can to be God’s agents to provide for the physical emotional and spiritual needs of those in the church and in society.
